Shuttle services for transport to local appointments
Community-run shuttle services are available to transport people to medical appointments within the Nelson, Tasman and Marlborough region.
The community shuttles are not emergency or ambulance services. If you need an ambulance or have a medical emergency, always dial 111.
St John shuttles
The St John Health Shuttle is a free community service that transports people to essential medical and health-related appointments, and then brings them home again.
There’s no charge for shuttle transport, however a donation is appreciated to cover costs.
To book a journey, call toll free on 0800 333 781
Red Cross shuttles
The Red Cross community transport service takes people from their homes to community appointments - for instance, to their doctor, hospital outpatient clinic, medical specialist or medical centre. Red Cross drivers are trained in first aid and provide assistance to and from the vehicle.
To ensure a vehicle and driver are available, it's best to book at least 24 hours before your appointment. You can book by calling your Red Cross service centre or by ringing 0800 RED CROSS (733 276).

The Marlborough to Nelson shuttle
The Marlborough Sounds Community Vehicle Trust runs an ‘on demand’ service taking passengers to and from medical appointments in Nelson.
A driver picks up people from Blenheim, Renwick, Picton and anywhere along Queen Charlotte Drive and State Highway 6. They may also be able to assist returning Marlborough patients discharged from Nelson Hospital (subject to notice).
People wishing to use the community vehicle must become a member of the trust ($15 per year) and the cost of a return trip is $40. Contact: (03) 574 1311 or email: [email protected].
