About haematology

Haematology is a branch of medicine focused on the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the blood and blood-forming organs.


Such disorders may involve the:

  • components of blood (cells and plasma)

  • coagulation (blood clotting) processes

  • bone marrow

  • lymph nodes


Patients may be referred to a haematology specialist at Nelson Marlborough Health by a GP (doctor), or other medical specialist.
