Cardiology services
Cardiology is the branch of medicine that deals with disorders of the heart and some parts of the circulatory system.
Cardiology services are delivered by a variety of health professionals, including cardiac interventionists (heart specialists), specialist nursing and allied health staff.
A district wide cardiac service is provided by Nelson Marlborough Cardiology Department and carried out by a group of multidisciplinary clinicians.
Cardiology services available include:
- the Coronary Intervention Suite
- Specialist nurse led services
- Physiology services
- Echocardiography services
- 'Healthy Hearts' cardiac rehabilitation.
Most cardiology services are available at Wairau on a sessional basis.
Interventional procedures require a pre-admission clinic, this is carried out at both hospital sites.
There is a locally produced YouTube video, In Good Hands for cardiac angiography. All patients receive a DVD of the video with their appointment letters.
