About respiratory medicine

Respiratory medicine is the branch of medicine that treats people with diseases affecting the lungs and breathing.

Respiratory specialists provide care for a wide range of respiratory conditions such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), asthma, lung cancer, cystic fibrosis and sleep apnoea.

They work closely with their other physician colleagues as many inpatient events occur due to respiratory disease.

The respiratory specialists at Nelson Marlborough Health offer consultations for people who have been referred through a GP (doctor), or other specialist colleagues.
