The St John and Red Cross organisations offer shuttle services to transport people to and from hospital.

These services are community-based, run by volunteers, and rely on user donations.

These are regional services – patients needing to travel outside of their region for treatment may be eligible for financial assistance through the National Travel Assistance Scheme.

The Nelson Marlborough Health patient travel team arranges the transport of patients between its facilities.

Community vehicle service

The Marlborough Sounds Community Vehicle Trust runs an ‘on demand’ service taking passengers to and from medical appointments in Nelson.  The service picks up from Blenheim, Renwick, Picton and anywhere along Queen Charlotte Drive and State Highway 6. The service may also be able to assist returning Marlborough patients discharged from Nelson Hospital (subject to notice).  Passengers wishing to use the community vehicle must become a member of the Trust ($15 per year) and the cost of a return trip is $40.  Contact: (03) 574 1311 or email: [email protected].
