The Maori Health Directorate is primarily the central co-ordination point for team members who sit in other parts of the organisation. The focus of the directorate is to maintain the strategic vision and goals of the organisation in partnership with the Iwi Health Board, and the implementation of strategy resulting in policy or operational activity.
‘Te Puawai Hauora' - NMDHB Maori Health Directorate
Puawai can be translated to mean flowering seeds; bringing forth life; growth and development. The word Hauora has come to be widely recognised as health, conceptually for Maori it also can be understood as overall wellness.
The directorates focus is on 4 key areas:
• supoprting NMDHB to improve Maori health outcome
• supporting Maori Health Providers by increasing capacity and capability
• supporting activity in the Iwi Health Board and DHB Board
• supporting Maori staff of the provider divisions
