Role of the Universal Newborn Hearing Screening Advisory Group

The Universal Newborn Hearing Screening Advisory Group (UNHSEIP) makes recommendations for the Newborn Hearing Screening Programme and advises on its strategic direction.


Members

The group comprises members who collectively have wide knowledge and experience in newborn care, screening programmes, hearing loss and associated interventions and/or follow-up.

The membership has representation from the following fields:

  • audiology
  • ear, nose and throat
  • UNHSEIP programme coordinator
  • scientist (from a hearing related field)
  • epidemiologist
  • public health physician
  • parents
  • Māori advisor
  • Pacific advisor
  • Ministry of Health – Chief Advisor, Child and Youth Health
  • Ministry of Education – representative with knowledge of advisors on deaf children.
