About the national clinical networks
National clinical networks help make healthcare fairer, improve patient experiences, and lead to better health outcomes. The networks:
- develop national standards and models of care
- identify ways to address differences in service quality and outcomes
- address equity so everyone has fair access to health services
- create smart, practical solutions based on research to guide spending and staffing decisions
- create a work plan, which must be approved by the Oversight Group.
Members of the networks include health professionals, consumers and their whānau.
The networks are in the Office of the Chief Clinical Officer's portfolio. This means the networks are well placed for alignment with government and clinical priorities and delivery across the system.
Network membership
Networks are made up of co-leaders and members, and all roles are chosen using an expression of interest process. One of the co-leads is chosen by the Hauora Māori Services Group to support Māori health goals.
Each network also follows an expression of interest process to get their members. Membership is built to balance a whole of system view, and to provide leadership from across the system and all clinical kaimahi.
An oversight group makes sure network members reflect the whole health system, from staff to consumers and whānau.
