About Regional Consumer Councils
Consumer and whānāu engagement is at the heart of the health system. The Regional Consumer Councils:
- provide community engagement with Health NZ
- identify and advise on health priorities, equity issues, and service quality
- review health service reports and initiatives
- work with local consumer groups, Iwi Māori Partnership Boards, and special interest groups.
The 4 councils cover the following regions:
- Northern
- Midland | Te Manawa Taki
- Central | Te Ikaroa
- South Island | Te Waipounamu
Our members
We aim to have a diverse range of members including people from Māori, Pacific, rainbow and disabled communities.
Members need to:
- be passionate about people accessing the best possible healthcare
- consider issues from a ‘big picture’ perspective
- have a good understanding of the health system and population health inequities
- have strong community networks and communications skills
- work with Health NZ across the whole health system — they are not considered a representative of any organisation, group or community.
Membership is a 2-year term and can be extended.
