Religious and cultural needs

A chaplaincy assistant provides spiritual care for patients, their families and hospital staff.  Kaitaia Hospital has 7 chaplaincy assistants of different religious affiliations who volunteer their time visiting patients and offering spiritual support.

Chaplains visit all patients regularly.  If you wish, they can arrange for a person from your own religious or cultural organisation to visit you. If at any time you wish to see a hospital chaplain or your own minister or priest please ask your nurse or ward clerk to contact them.

Please feel free to use the chapel, which is on the lower ground floor of the General Ward.

Interpreters

If you are deaf or do not speak English as your first language, ask your nurse or midwife to arrange an interpreter for you.

Wi-Fi

Free Wi-Fi is available for patients and visitors. In your mobile device settings and Wi-Fi connections, look for and connect to ‘Hospital Hotspot’ and follow the steps. Wi-Fi access is issued for a 24-hour period, after which you will need to repeat
the access connection steps.
