Clinical psychology
Overview of the service
Psychologists are trained in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of mental illness, developmental disorders, and emotional, behavioural and psychological disorders. This includes mood and anxiety disorders, eating disorders, psychoses and complex mental health presentations.
The majority of Nelson Marlborough Health psychologists work in the Mental Health services, in adult community and inpatient, Child and Adolescent Mental Health service (CAMHS), Early Intervention Service (EIS), Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) and Older Persons Mental Health Service (OPMHS).

There is also a limited clinical psychology service for clients in the paediatric, child development, consult liaison psychology (referral by medical specialists only for people with a chronic health condition), and as part of the national psychosocial support for patients with cancer initiative.
