Our hospitals are prepared

In line with the Emergency Management strategy, the districts hospitals have regular training and exercises which deal with emergency scenarios such as mass casualty, major utility failure, or natural disasters.

Staff within Nelson Marlborough Health and the hospitals also participate in Coordinated Incident Management System or CIMS training.

Other testing and preparedness

The two main hospitals (Nelson and Wairau) undergo monthly Emergency Power Supply System  (EPSS) testing to ensure that all systems are ready to go in the event of a minor utility failure.

Both hospitals also have large emergency water reservoirs on site that allow them to function normally without loss of service.

The Emergency Management team meet monthly with the Hospital Emergency Planning committees to discuss issues or incidents that may affect the hospitals response or emergency planning.
