Accessing urgent dental care during Alert Level 3
Healthcare for urgent and emergency oral health (dental) needs remains in place through Alert Level 3, and people are encouraged not to delay getting advice for urgent dental needs.
The Nelson Marlborough Health (NMH) hospital oral health services, the NMH community oral health service and private dentists have been working collaboratively to provide essential dental care throughout all levels of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“There has been some uncertainty in the community around access to dental care and we’d like people to know that urgent care is still available. Unresolved dental infection can be life-threatening, so it is really important to seek help if you have any concerns,” says Dr Donna Kennedy, Clinical Head of Department, NMH Hospital Oral Health Service.

Targeted surveillance testing starts this week
As at 4 May, almost 3,000 predominantly-symptomatic people have been tested for COVID-19 in the Nelson, Tasman and Marlborough regions.
This update gives an overview of the current testing available, testing completed, and the future direction for the surveillance testing of asymptomatic people.

Close contacts of new case test negative
While the Nelson Marlborough Public Health Service continues to investigate the source of the new Nelson case confirmed on 29 April, the test results for the close contacts (including supermarket co-workers) of the new case are negative.

New COVID-19 case confirmed in Nelson
A Nelson woman in her 30s has been confirmed with COVID-19 and her case is thought to be related to travel. This is the first case confirmed in the Nelson Marlborough region since 9 April.
