Three new cases in Marlborough

Case Update

  • New cases – 3 (2 confirmed, 1 probable)
  • Active cases – 20
  • Recovered cases – 3

There are three COVID-19 cases, in two households, to announce in Marlborough today. All of the cases are known close contacts of existing cases.

Dr Stephen Bridgman, Medical Officer of Health said, “The cases are linked to known exposure events and do not represent undetected community transmission in Blenheim. Case investigations are underway and any locations of interest will be added to the Ministry of Health website.

Marlborough as a region has responded well to the need for testing with figures yesterday showing 654 tests had occurred in the region since the first Omicron cases were announced. We would encourage anyone with symptoms in Marlborough to present for testing.

In this ‘stamp it out phase’ testing allows us to control an outbreak ensuring the community has the chance to prepare and protect themselves against Omicron. Marlborough has some of the highest coverage of booster vaccination in the country and this will continue to grow.

The decision to shift the booster vaccination from 4 months to 3 months will allow an additional 7010 people in Marlborough to receive the booster dose.

Waitangi Weekend is a great opportunity to connect with friends and whānau. Remember the public health advice, wear a mask, scan in and if you are unwell or have symptoms, please get a test and stay at home.

If you are travelling over this period, have a plan before you travel including how you would return home to self-isolate and what you would do if you needed to extend your stay to self-isolate in place.”
