Nelson Marlborough Health Earthquake Update


Nelson Marlborough Health incident management team has received reports from engineers ensuring that the buildings at Nelson and Wairau Hospitals are safe to use.  Hospital services in the Nelson Marlborough region are running as normal.

The Marlborough Health Hub in Blenheim has sustained some damage and some services have relocated to Wairau Hospital.

Acting Chief Executive Peter Bramley says there are have been additional presentations to ED in Nelson and Wairau Hospitals as a result of the earthquake, mainly fall injuries, cuts and lacerations.

“Our services are continuing as normal and we encourage people initially to contact their GP if they have any health concerns,” he says.

All pharmacies are ‘business as usual’ in Picton and Nelson. However, some pharmacies in Blenheim have been closed. The public are advised to contact their local pharmacy to ascertain their opening hours.

The public are reminded to follow the ‘Drop, Cover, Hold’ Civil defence message during the period of aftershocks.
