Wairau Hospital welcomes new electric vehicle charging port for patient transport service


Local organisations in Nelson Marlborough recently came together to acknowledge a new electric vehicle (EV) and charging port at Wairau Hospital.

The EV will be used by the Marlborough Community Vehicle Trust as they continue to provide a safe, reliable and affordable transportation service for patients and their whānau attending medical appointments across the region. 

Jane Kinsey, Senior Localities Manager, Commissioning Te Tauihu, Health NZ said:

“This service is a real asset to our community, and we are delighted to contribute by providing a power supply for the EV charger.

“Thank you to everyone who made this happen, and to staff and volunteers for helping our patients and their whānau access reliable transport.”

At the event, Quentin Doig, Chair of Marlborough Community Vehicle Trust, expressed his gratitude to local organisations for their generous contributions, including the provision of the Wairau Hospital carpark equipped with an EV charger.  

The Kona EV was recently donated by Marlborough Lines Limited, and Aotea Electric donated installation services for the charging port.

Staff from Health New Zealand Nelson Marlborough, Marlborough Community Vehicle Trust, Marlborough Primary Health, Thundergrid – EV infrastructure specialists, Aotea Electric, Marlborough Lines Limited and the Mayor’s office attended the event.
