The Nelson Hospital Charity Ball raised $3,000 for Giving Aroha

General Surgeon Ros Pochin recently delivered funds raised through the Nelson Hospital Charity Ball to Giving Aroha, an organisation which provides meals to those in need in Nelson.

Giving Aroha was founded by Jackie Galland, pictured here with Ros. Giving Aroha is an entirely community-funded charity where volunteers meet every Sunday at 5pm in Anzac Park in Nelson to serve homecooked meals, all of which are organised and donated by volunteers.Roz Hospital Ball cheque

The group also provides those in need with warm clothing and sleeping gear.

Ros has been volunteering with Giving Aroha for the past two and half years, sharing her time and her culinary skills on Sunday's. When it came to selecting a beneficiary of the Nelson Hospital Charity Ball, Ros and ball committee chair Dr Kate Hippolite knew Giving Aroha would be a perfect fit.

Alongside Ros and Kate, House Surgeons Phoebe Bardoul, Caoime Salmon, Jess Trevett, Rebecca Duncan, India Rees, Emma Halsey, Isabel Clarke, and Rose Taylor organised the Ball, which was held October last year at The Boathouse.

"Their incredibly hard work paid off - the event was a huge success and we sold out of tickets very quickly. It was a beautiful night."
