NMH COVID-19 Update: 7 April 2020
This update provides information about confirmed cases in the Nelson Marlborough region, community-based assessment centre (CBAC) data and any new information for our communities.

1. Total confirmed cases in the Nelson Marlborough region
One new probable case has been added to Ministry of Health (MoH) reporting for the Nelson Marlborough region. Three older cases have also been retrospectively added to the MoH website.
The new probable case is from 6 April, for a man in his 50s in the Marlborough region.

- All cases are travel-related and there is no evidence of a community outbreak in the region
- All cases are in isolation at home or in their place of usual residence.
- There are no cases in hospital.

A ‘probable case’ is a person who has returned a negative lab test result but the clinician treating them believes that, based on clinical symptoms and exposure history, that they are very likely to be a case.
Contact tracing is underway as required by the Nelson Marlborough Public Health Service (NMPHS) and the national close contact tracing service.

As at 7 April 2020, the total number of people who have recovered from COVID-19 in the Nelson Marlborough region is: 11

4. Updated suspect case definition: New priority groupings
On 3 April, the Ministry of Health Technical Advisory Group revised the suspect case definition for COVID-19. The priority groups for investigation and testing were also revised.
The case definition and priority groups are used by clinicians when they assess (examine) a person, to determine whether that person should be tested. A clinician also applies their own clinical judgement of that person’s symptoms and personal situation.
