Preparing for the NZNO strike on 9 June

Nelson Marlborough Health, along with all other New Zealand district health boards, is preparing for a strike by New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO) members. NZNO members include nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants.

The strike is scheduled for 8 hours from 11am – 7pm on Wednesday 9 June 2021.

National negotiations are continuing with the intent of averting industrial action. Meanwhile, continency planning is underway so that we can continue to provide safe care to our hospital patients and continue to provide essential and life-preserving services.

To achieve this, we need to postpone non-urgent appointments (elective procedures) in the lead-up to the strike day, and on the strike day itself. Nelson Marlborough Health will contact individual patients whose appointments need to be postponed, and rescheduled. Unless you hear from us directly, please assume that your appointment or procedure will be going ahead.

Please do not delay, or put off, seeking healthcare advice during the strike. GPs, medical centres, pharmacies and telehealth services like Healthline (0800 611 1160) will not by affected by the strike. Emergency services and hospital emergency departments (ED) will also continue to be available, but there may be a slightly longer wait in ED so please save ED for emergencies.
