Making a more comfortable, colourful chemotherapy suite
The last new artwork has been hung in Nelson Hospital's chemotherapy suite, completing the suite's renovation.
Nine paintings were purchased with funding donated by the Dry July Foundation. This funding also covered the costs of a new fridge, dishwasher and couch for the whanau/visitor space.
The Dry July Foundation raises money to improve treatment environments and ease the burden of a cancer diagnosis for patients, their families and carers.
Clinical Nurse Specialist and Cancer Care Co-ordinator Shelley Shea says that the artworks, by Alice Reade, are a focal point for people who use the chemotherapy suite.
"Everyone has been amazed at how beautiful the art is and it creates a talking point every day. The team is pleased with the result as it supports the services philosophy of delivering patient-centred care," Shelley says.
“We try to create a space that is restful, encourages positivity, is supportive and promotes wellness for patients and their whanau.”
