Change of provider for Motueka’s primary maternity facility

Nelson Marlborough Health has received notice from Maternity Services Ltd that they will cease being the provider of maternity services at Nelson Bays Maternity Unit in Motueka from 30 September 2017.

Nelson Marlborough Health will take over services at the Nelson Bays Maternity Unit on an interim basis while considering the long-term provision of primary maternity facility care in Nelson/Tasman.  Nelson Marlborough Health will work with existing staff to look at them continuing to provide services at the facility.

Maternity Services Ltd was established 13 years ago when Nelson Marlborough Health was looking for a provider of primary maternity facility care in Motueka.

Managing Director Kirsty Rance has worked for over 40 years in healthcare, focusing on the care of mums and babies for 26 years and leading the maternity unit in Motueka for the last 13 years.   Kirsty feels that now is the right time to end her period of leadership and governance of the service.

“It has been an absolute privilege to serve the Nelson/Tasman region in this role.  I would like to acknowledge that the success of this service has been in no small part due to the dedication of the many midwives who have provided care to families during the time Maternity Services Ltd has operated the service, and the support of the community.

Debbie Fisher, the Associate Director of Midwifery at Nelson Marlborough Health says Kirsty has provided a high quality of service to the community.

“Kirsty has provided a great service at Motueka, and has worked extraordinarily hard to provide a comfortable, safe and welcoming environment for women and their families for birth and postnatal care.  She has pulled together a great team who have done their utmost for women who have chosen Motueka as the place to receive maternity care.”
