CE Chris Fleming seconded to Southern DHB

Nelson Marlborough Health Chief Executive Chris Fleming has been seconded to Southern DHB as interim Chief Executive.

Southern DHB Commissioner Kathy Grant said the Commissioner team was very pleased to have secured the services of Mr Fleming during this transitional time.

“Chris is an experienced CEO who has previously worked with Southern DHB, and will provide effective ongoing leadership for the DHB’s Owning our Future strategy as we seek a permanent appointment to the CEO role.”

Mr Fleming will join Southern in mid-September and is expected to stay with the DHB for approximately six months while the CEO recruitment process takes place. He and his wife will relocate to Dunedin for the period of the secondment.

“We appreciate the support of Nelson Marlborough Health in assisting us during this period. We look forward to welcoming Chris into the role, and working with him in the months ahead.”

I’d also like to thank Carole Heatly, the executive team and all staff for their support in ensuring a smooth transition at this time,” Ms Grant said.

Nelson Marlborough District Health Board Chairman Jenny Black says Mr Fleming’s appointment speaks to his expertise in the health sector.

“Chris will no doubt provide invaluable leadership during an important time for Southern DHB,” Ms Black says.

“The fact that Chris can leave Nelson Marlborough Health for a lengthy period also points to organisational stability and thorough succession planning, where current GM Clinical Services Peter Bramley is more than ready to step into the Acting CE role from 12 August.”
