Midwives in the Nelson Marlborough region work in accordance with the New Zealand midwifery model of care.

Our local Lead Maternity Carers (LMC) midwives work in partnership with women and their families in a relationship based on trust, shared decision making and responsibility, negotiation and shared understanding. The midwives role is to accompany the woman on her journey through pregnancy and childbirth into motherhood.

The midwifery model of care based on continuity of care is recognised and supported by Nelson Marlborough Health as an essential part of the health and wellbeing of our families and communities.

You don’t need a referral from your GP to book in with a LMC midwife.  Please contact your  LMC midwife directly or please call your local maternity unit for further assistance.
