Your Rights
Your rights to: Respect; Fair treatment; Dignity and independence; Proper standards; Communication; Information, Make your own decisions; Support and to Make a complaint are covered by the NMDHB Code of Rights and Responsibilities for patients, clients and residents.

Your Privacy
Your rights to privacy are covered by the Privacy Act 1993 and the Health Information Privacy Code 1994. Essentially information must be directly collected from patients where possible, health providers should collect only what is needed for the purposes of providing your care and must keep the information secure.
You are entitled to request the health information held about you and may ask that a statement of correction be attached to your file. To request access to your information, write to the: Privacy Officer, NMDHB, Private Bag 18, Nelson.

You are welcome to comment on our services. All feedback gives us an opportunity to improve the services provided to you and to others who need them.

The options for giving feedback about services you have received from NMDHB are to :
Contact the health professional who provided your care or the manager of that area.

Complaints will be acknowledged to you in writing within five (5) working days of us receiving it. Your complaint will be investigated within 20 working days from the date of acknowledgement. You will be kept informed if this takes longer and the reasons why this is necessary.
