Nelson Marlborough Hospitals Charitable
Trust
Hospitals in the Nelson Marlborough region have been managing
trust funds donated by former patients, friends of the hospital
and members of the public for many years.
In December 1999, the Nelson Marlborough Hospitals’ Charitable
Trust was established to create more independence from the District
Health Board. An independent auditor, lawyer, trustees and the
District Health Board’s CEO make up the Charitable Trust
team who manage trust funds.
Goldpine are principal sponsors of the Trust, contributing to
its administrative functioning. They see it as a way to support
a strong community initiative that provides benefits for everybody
within the region.
One of the functions of the Trust is to accept and manage community
donations to ensure money is used for the specific purpose it was
intended. When making a donation, people can specify what they
want their donation used for or they can give for general purposes.
Some specific purposes for which donations are particularly beneficial
are:
- Staff education services and facilities
- Artwork and other improvements to the physical environmental,
such as landscaping
- Medical and other equipment
- Specific services, wards or departments
The Trust has participated in implementing the
Health-Promoting Hospitals concepts by managing the fundraising
for projects
additional to the Nelson Hospital site redevelopment.
All donations to the Health Promoting Hospitals projects are
being recorded in a donations register and acknowledged in The
Nelson Mail
and Marlborough
Express.
Acknowledgement
of donations will also be displayed in the main hospital entrances.
Acknowledgement is subject to the donors wishes.
Donations of any size, from the public or from businesses and
other organisations, are greatly appreciated. All individual
donations over $5 are tax deductible. Donations made by companies
may be tax deductible. It is possible to arrange a bequest within your will and we suggest
you consult your legal advisor about this.
