HOSPITAL AND HEALTH SERVICE PROVIDER DIVISION
Nelson Marlborough District Health Board is the predominant provider of publicly funded health services in Nelson and Marlborough. It does this through the provider division, which has a service agreement with the planning and funding division in the same way as other providers in the region.
The division provides an extensive range of services and manages patient facilities that extend across the top of the South Island:
- Nelson Hospital, including the Acute Mental Health Unit,
in Nelson City
- Wairau Hospital in Blenheim
- Braemar, the location for the CAMHS services, IDSS administration
- Community homes for people who have intellectual disability throughout the Nelson City/Richmond area
- Alexandra Hospital in Richmond operates as a psychogeriatric facility and has 37 beds
- In Murchison, the Arthur McCaa Community Hospital has 6 continuing care , 2 GP & 2 resusitation beds and is a base for
community services
- Motueka Community Hospital provides 12 continuing care & 3 acute GP admitting beds beds and encompasses a community
service base
- Golden Bay Community Hospital, in Takaka, provides 7 continuing care & 5 GP admitting and 3 maternity beds as well as providing a base for community services
Services are also provided from a number of Community Health bases, at Picton, Wakefield, Havelock and Mapua, and School Dental Clinics. Regional Public Health services are based in Nelson and Blenheim.
