"The Privacy Commissioner is independent of the Executive and of Parliament. This independence means I can be seen to be impartial when investigating complaints free from influence by the Executive or members of Parliament. This is particularly important as I have from time to time to investigate complaints against a Minister or complaints involving a member of Parliament. Many complaints are against government departments and ministries. It is also important for certain of my other roles such as advising on the privacy implications of proposed new laws and monitoring information matching by government agencies."
