Each of the Advisory Committees has a demonstrated connection to aspects of the Board’s business outlined in the next level.
This is followed by a level outlining the Strategic Leadership Team (SLT) inclusive of the CE which connects with the Advisory Committee, IHB and the key SLT roles along with each role’s critical connection/s within the organisation’s broader relationships.
To fulfil our mission and meet our statutory objectives, the Board has two main functions:
- Planning and funding of services for the region
- Providing health and disability services
supported by a number of:
Organisation Structure
Nelson Marlborough District Health Board has responsibility for planning and funding of:
- personal (primary and secondary) health services
- Maori health services
- mental health services
- disability support services for those 65 years and over
The NMDHB has established the Planning and Funding Division to undertake its planning and funding functions. This division is responsible for the allocation and management of health and disability funds, focusing on improving the health status of the district. It has an increasing focus on the planning aspects of service provision and the development of innovative purchasing approaches to achieve improved integration of services.
The division also incorporates:
- Support Works – the agency that provides needs assessment and service co-ordination for people with longer term disabilities on behalf of the Ministry of Health.
The General Manager Primary and Community is responsible for the ongoing implementation of the Primary Health Care Strategy and the strengthening of relationships between the community, primary and hosptial-based services. This GM is responsible jointly with the GM Planning and Funding, to ensure the effectiveness of population health and health improvement strategies. The General Manager Primary and Community is also responsible for:
- Public Health Services provides the population health services of Health Promotion and Health Protection as well as a range of other services.
Nelson Marlborough District Health Board is the predominant provider of publicly funded health services in Nelson and Marlborough. It does this through the provider division, which has a service agreement with the planning and funding division in the same way as other providers in the region. The division provides an extensive range of services and manages patient facilities that extend across the top of the South Island:
- Nelson Hospital, including the Acute Mental Health Unit, in Nelson City
- Wairau Hospital in Blenheim
- Braemar, the location for the CAMHS services, IDSS administration
- Community homes for people who have intellectual disability throughout the Nelson City/Richmond area
- Alexandra Hospital in Richmond operates as a psychogeriatric facility and has 46 beds
- In Murchison, the Arthur McCaa Community Hospital has 11 beds and is a base for community services
- Motueka Community Hospital provides 19 beds and encompasses a community service base
- Golden Bay Community Hospital, in Takaka, provides 15 beds as well as providing a base for community services
- Services are also provided from a number of Community Health bases, at Picton, Wakefield, Havelock and Mapua, and School Dental Clinics. Regional Public Health services are based in Nelson and Blenheim
This division supports the ownership and governance functions (Board and Advisory Committees) as well as providing support services for the organisation as a whole. This includes:
