Staying Well > Nutrition & Physical Activity

It's all about healthy living

Nelson Marlborough is well placed to take a lead in healthy lifestyles - to the benefit of everyone who lives here.

It is a wonderful region for those who get out and enjoy it on foot, bike and kayak. The region’s coastline and rolling hills are a rich source of seafood, fruit and other healthy foods.

All about the Nutrition and Physical Activity Programme (NPA)

The NPA is a Nelson Marlborough District Health Board initiated programme (established in 2005) that aims to improve health in our region, by providing opportunities and motivating people to eat better, be more active and make healthier choices. The programme works with schools, early childhood centres, sports trusts and community groups on projects that support healthy living in Nelson-Marlborough.

The NPA Programme is doing this by working with agencies and communities to promote partnerships and cooperation, pilot innovative initiatives, increase choice and provide coordination for nutrition and physical activity across the Nelson Marlborough District.

For more information about the programme, NPA supported projects, and the stakeholders involved please refer to their dedicated website at www.nutritionandphysicalactivity.org.nz

Our goals:

Long term
• Improved health and wellbeing through healthy eating and increased physical activity
• Reduction in obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancer

Short term
