The Intellectual Disability Support Services of Nelson Marlborough District Health Board is currently restructuring and clients being resettled into the community. General Surgeon position - New Zealand

Situated at the top of the South Island, the Nelson, Tasman and Marlborough region has a combined population of approximately 135,000 and that number is increasing all the time. No wonder, with three large National Parks close by, beautiful beaches, clean rivers, boating, and all manner of outdoor pursuits available within minutes of the city centres of Nelson and Blenheim. For those who enjoy a more leisurely pace, the region is well known for world-class wineries, arts and crafts, and excellent cafes and restaurants.
Nelson Marlborough District Health Board provides services through two base hospitals; Nelson Hospital and Wairau Hospital (Blenheim). Blenheim and Nelson are 120kms (90 minutes drive) apart.
Wairau Hospital is currently undergoing an exciting new rebuild with a planned completion date of December 2010. There are good support services with laboratory, X-ray, ultrasound, CT and nuclear medicine on site.
This permanent 0.9 FTE Specialist position (72 hours per fortnight) is based in Blenheim. You will hold a specialist qualification vocationally registerable in NZ, along with a current annual practicing certificate. You will be competent over the range of general surgery. A sub specialist interest will be encouraged to complement or support those of other Surgeons within the service. Experience in colorectal surgery and competence in endoscopy will be an advantage. This post offers the opportunity to be actively involved with the development of the district wide service.

Nelson Marlborough District Health Board is engaged in a rebuild of the hospital in Blenheim. This exciting and challenging project will ensure a sustainable Hospital and Health Centre for the Marlborough region.
