About Elective Services

Elective Services are hospital based services for those patients who do not need immediate hospital treatment.   


How Can You Access These Services?

Access to Elective Services within the Nelson Marlborough District health Board is via a referral from your General Practitioner (Doctor).

Services Covered

Services offered are in the specialities of:

• Cardiology

• Dental

• General Surgery

• Gynaecology

• Ophthalmology (Eyes)

• Orthopaedics

• Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose, Throat)

• Plastic Surgery

• Urology

Some Specialities provide a district wide service and you may be required to travel to either Nelson or Blenheim  for your treatment.     

If you are placed on an inpatient treatment list following First Specialist or Subsequent (follow up) Assessment you will fall into one of 4 categories:

Following your assessment at the hospital you will be notified in writing of which category you fall into.
 
If you require further information regarding your place on the treatment list you should contact the Secretary of the Department you have been referred to.

You can do this by phoning 546 1800 and asking to be transferred to the relevant Secretary
